THE ORIGINS OF STREETWEAR Posted on 10 Apr 09:39

Streetwear has probably been around longer than you think.  However, most would agree that it grew to popularity in the late 70’s when surfboard designer Shawn Stussy created his own line of apparel primarily influenced by the emerging punk scene.  It was largely adopted by the skate and surf culture and quickly spread to other metropolises and countries around the world.  Countries like Japan and the UK would add their own culture and style to the growing trend.  Athletic apparel later made a big impact on streetwear as limited edition sneakers became a must have item, and oversized basketball jerseys became fashion statements.  Hip hop artists and celebrities added their own twist by mixing high-end and low, casual and dressy.  Demand grew as many wanted to emulate the looks worn by their fashion icons.  Now we see budget retailers as well as luxury brands creating their own streetwear collections.

It’s obvious to see that streetwear is constantly evolving while still retaining a lot of its various roots.  Due to its attitude of non-conformity and self-expression, there is plenty of freedom to make it your own.  What will we see next?

OUR SPRING / SUMMER SHOOT IN MALIBU Posted on 24 Mar 02:43

Nothing could be more perfect for our spring/summer lookbook than the ruggedly beautiful shores of El Matador State Beach. Complete with cliffs and caves, it was a great backdrop for our sophisticated street wear and beachy looks. This spectacular beach is only 40 miles from the hustle and bustle of downtown Los Angeles, which makes it a favorite escape for many locals and avid photographers.  It's a bit of a hike down a 150 ft bluff on a steep dirt road to some stairs.  But it is definitely worth the trip once you hit the sand.

Come at low tide to explore the sea caves, and stay for the amazing sunset  Needless to say, we had a blast shooting this location and can't wait to be back again.
